Rising Sons: How Smartgyro Stabilization Powered a Record-Breaking Sportfishing Season

Written by Smartgyro Writer | Nov 10, 2025

For Team Rising Sons, the 2025 Gulf tournament season has been nothing short of legendary. The team relied on Smartgyro stabilization to turn rough seas into smooth performance, proving how critical gyro technology can be in competitive sportfishing. With the Smartgyro SG60 onboard, the Rising Sons found the perfect balance between power, control, and endurance, and it showed in every result.

East Pass Challenge – Ft. Walton, FL

The season opened strong at the SFC East Pass Challenge, where Rising Sons outperformed six other boats to claim first place. Three blue marlin later, the tone for the season was set: the crew was here to win.

Louisiana Gulf Coast Billfish Classic – Venice, LA

The momentum carried to Venice, where 20 boats competed fiercely in the Gulf Coast Billfish Classic. Rising Sons secured third place in catch and release with three blue marlin. Jaselyn stole the spotlight, taking home Top Lady Angler honors, showcasing her skill and consistency early in the season.

Cajun Canyons Billfish Classic – Venice, LA

This stop was special. Among nearly 30 competitors, Rising Sons landed Top Blue Marlin with a massive 618-pound catch, fought by Jaselyn for four gruelling hours in 3–4 foot seas. Throughout the fight, Smartgyro kept the deck stable and allowed the crew to stay sharp and reactive, a decisive factor in one of the team’s most memorable victories.

That 116” marlin wasn’t just tournament-winning, it was personal. At this same event nine years ago, Jaselyn caught her first offshore fish (an 81-pound tuna). The following year, she released her first blue marlin. To return nearly a decade later and claim first place with her biggest blue marlin to date made the victory unforgettable.

Blue Marlin World Cup

Few tournaments match the prestige of the Blue Marlin World Cup, where boats around the globe fish simultaneously for the biggest blue marlin in the world.

For Rising Sons, the day turned into an epic test of endurance. At 9:30 a.m., they hooked into a beast and fought for 7 hours and 10 minutes before finally boating a 609-pound marlin. Their catch earned them the Gulf Cup title (22 boats) and put them within just 80 pounds of the global win. In such extreme conditions, Smartgyro ensured the vessel’s stability hour after hour, reducing fatigue and giving the crew the focus needed to go the distance. While they didn’t take the world crown, the fish was the fight of a lifetime, and Jaselyn’s longest battle with a billfish ever.

Grand Isle Tarpon Rodeo – Grand Isle, LA

Steeped in tradition, this is one of the oldest tournaments in the country and a family favorite for Rising Sons. This year, history was made again.

The team shattered a record dating back to 1998 by releasing six blue marlin and one white marlin, a new tournament catch-and-release record. No fight lasted longer than 45 minutes, with most under 20, thanks in part to their Smartgyro SG60 keeping them perfectly balanced in rough 3–5 foot seas and allowing faster safer releases.

Jaselyn closed the event with Best All-Around Offshore Angler, while the entire team celebrated their most productive billfish tournament ever.

Hurricane Hole Invitational – Grand Isle, LA

The season kept rolling at Hurricane Hole, where Rising Sons battled alongside 12 other boats. They secured third place in catch and release with three blue marlin and added third place tuna with an 84.5-pound yellowfin. Jaselyn once again claimed Top Lady Angler, while teammate Thadd Champagne celebrated his first-ever blue marlin release.

Playoffs in Cabo – Bisbee’s Black & Blue

Capping off their incredible season, the Rising Sons headed west to Cabo San Lucas for the Bisbee’s Black & Blue, often called the Super Bowl of Sportfishing. After earning their playoff spot, the team made a statement on Day 2 by weighing in a 457-pound blue marlin, securing the daily jackpot.

When no qualifying fish were caught in their side bets the following day, their winnings rolled up to an incredible $2,588,500. It was a dream result, one of the largest payouts of the year, and a powerful way to close out their 2025 campaign.

Beyond the Tournaments

It wasn’t just about the fishing. Jaselyn represented the sport on a bigger stage, attending the ESPY Awards in Hollywood as an honored ESPN athlete. Inspired by the strong female presence at the event, she continues to break barriers and serve as a role model for women in sportfishing.

The Smartgyro Advantage

If there’s one constant this season, it’s been the sea conditions. The Gulf delivered relentless waves, but thanks to the Smartgyro SG60, Rising Sons never missed a beat.

  • Stability in chaos: Whether chasing down a marlin in rough seas or running overnight, Smartgyro kept the boat steady, reducing fatigue and sharpening focus.
  • Performance boost: With less rocking, the crew stayed balanced, fought fish more effectively, and secured faster, healthier releases.
  • Durability under pressure: With back-to-back tournaments stacked all season, quick onboard maintenance kept the stabilizer tournament-ready without removing it from the boat.

In Jaselyn’s words: “The Smartgyro was our MVP this season. It gave us the edge we needed in every single fight.”

From Ft. Walton to Venice, from Grand Isle to the world stage, the Rising Sons delivered a season packed with wins, records, and memories.

At Smartgyro, we’re proud to see our technology powering stories like this one — where innovation meets performance on the open sea.
