Smartgyro modularity represents a strategic advantage. At Smartgyro, we’ve embraced modularity as a core engineering principle from the very beginning. When we say our stabilizers are modular, we’re referring to a system engineered to simplify installation, streamline service, and maximize comfort by minimizing disruption.
At the heart of the Smartgyro system is the vacuum sealed sphere. Unlike other systems, this sphere can be safely opened once installed, allowing complete onboard service of critical components like the bearings. This capability is unique in the gyrostabilizer market and enables full maintenance without removing the unit from the vessel.
Around the central sphere, other components including the cooling system, braking system, inverter, and control box remain individually accessible. This separation makes diagnostics, maintenance, and upgrades faster and more efficient.
Smartgyro’s modularity also extends to installation. The stabilizer can be delivered and installed in separate parts; this is particularly advantageous for refits or compact engine rooms where hatch and access dimensions are limited. Even the base frame can be split into smaller segments, meaning the largest component that needs to fit through an opening is simply the sphere itself.
This design philosophy results in a clean, serviceable, and installation-friendly solution, purpose-built to meet the challenges of real-world onboard environments.
Modularity delivers concrete, measurable benefits for everyone involved in the lifecycle of the vessel, from shipyards and installers to technicians and final owners.
A recent refit carried out by SV Servizi, Smartgyro’s certified dealer in Italy, showcases the practical advantages of Smartgyro modularity. The owner of the Vizianello VZ18 selected the latest-generation SG40 after evaluating several stabilization solutions on the market. The model stood out for its optimized performance, reduced power consumption, and the unique capability to perform complete onboard maintenance thanks to Smartgyro’s serviceable vacuum sphere; a key differentiator compared to other gyro systems.
The installation environment presented a common challenge: very restricted access to the crew cabin, where the stabilizer needed to be positioned. This is where Smartgyro’s modular design proved essential. The SG40 was brought onboard in separate modules, dramatically simplifying the process and avoiding invasive structural work. The only modification required was a small opening in a bulkhead to allow the sphere — the system’s largest component — to pass through. Once inside, the unit was quickly assembled and secured.
For the owner, this resulted in a clean, efficient installation and long-term confidence in a stabilizer that can be serviced anywhere, without removal from the vessel. For SV Servizi, it was a clear demonstration of how Smartgyro’s engineering philosophy can simplify even the most challenging refits.
At Smartgyro, modularity is more than just mechanical convenience. It’s a design strategy that delivers efficiency, flexibility, and better experiences, whether you’re designing the vessel, maintaining it, or simply enjoying your time on board.
