Carlo Galli Tognota Announced as Smartgyro’s CEO

Following a period of ongoing growth and expansion, Smartgyro proudly announces the appointment of Carlo Galli Tognota as its new Chief Executive Officer. With an impressive 20-year career in the marine industry, Carlo Galli Tognota brings a wealth of experience and a proven track record of success, along with a fresh perspective to guide the company's future endeavors.

With a professional background deep rooted within technical engineering, Carlo began his career at (Cantieri di) Baia, a renowned boat builder, where he served as a mechanical engineer. His journey continued with sales roles at Sealine Italia and Cummins, where he developed his leadership skills and industry relevant expertise within the yacht sales sector, marine propulsion and power generation sector. For the past 11 years Carlo has been an integral part of Twin Disc, a machinery manufacturing company, overseeing a wide range of marine products for power transmission, boat management and propulsion and gaining invaluable insights into the EMEA market. 

Commenting on his recent appointment Carlo said:

“I am honored to take on the role of CEO at Smartgyro, a company with a remarkable history and reputation in the industry. My diverse background in technical, sales, and managerial roles has equipped me with a deep understanding of the marine sector, making me well-prepared for the challenges and opportunities ahead. I am pleased to be assuming this position at such an integral time for the company, celebrating their 10-year anniversary milestone this year. What initially drew me to this role is that Smartgyro is a fast-growing company, which is also part of the large and international YANMAR group, helping to drive innovation and the future of marine stabilization forward.”

Since 2020 Smartgyro was managed and guided to become an integrated part of the YANMAR family by Marcel Borsboom, director of the General onboard systems group within the YANMAR Recreational Marine Business Unit. He will resume this responsibility while he adds:

“This latest announcement heralds a transformative opportunity for the company to optimize its internal processes and fortify its robust leadership footprint in its native Italy”.

Carlo Galli Tognota officially commenced his role as Smartgyro’s CEO as of April 1st, 2024. The entire team at Smartgyro extended a warm welcome to him and looked forward to working closely to achieve his vision aligned with the company’s goals and objectives.

Dopo un periodo di forte crescita ed espansione, Smartgyro annuncia la nomina di Carlo Galli Tognota come nuovo Amministratore Delegato. Con oltre vent'anni di esperienza nell'industria nautica, Carlo porta con sé una prospettiva fresca e un solido background tecnico, pronti a guidare le future iniziative dell'azienda.

Carlo Galli Tognota ha iniziato la sua carriera come ingegnere meccanico, presso i (Cantieri di) Baia, per poi assumere ruoli in ambito vendite presso Sealine Italia e Cummins, durante i quali ha sviluppato competenze anche nella compravendita di yacht, dei motori di propulsione e di gruppi elettrogeni. Negli ultimi 11 anni, ha lavorato presso Twin Disc, dove ha acquisito una profonda conoscenza del mercato EMEA, supervisionando la vendita di una vasta gamma di prodotti per la trasmissione di potenza e la propulsione.

In merito alla sua recente nomina, Carlo ha commentato:

Grazie alla mia esperienza variegata in ambiti tecnici, commerciali e manageriali, e alla profonda conoscenza del settore, mi sento preparato ad affrontare le sfide e a cogliere le opportunità che ci attendono. Dal 2020 Smartgyro è stata condotta e guidata verso l’integrazione nella famiglia YANMAR da Marcel Borsboom, Direttore General Onboard Systems Group in Yanmar Marine International. Borsboom continuerà a ricoprire questo ruolo, e sottolinea:
