Major improvements showcase years of testing and research which combined, provide leading stabilization solutions to further elevate customer boating experience
Smartgyro, a global innovator in marine stabilization technology, is set to unveil the optimized SG40 model, arriving in Q4 this year. First introduced more than a decade ago as Smartgyro’s inaugural gyro stabilizer, the SG40 remains a cornerstone of the company’s heritage. Refined through years of testing, onboard experience, and continuous innovation, the SG40 now enters a new chapter, leading the way for the evolution of Smartgyro’s entire product range.
Engineered for vessels between 50 to 60 feet, the SG40 embodies Smartgyro’s core advantages, offering onboard maintenance, straightforward installation, and seamless refit integration.
Beneath the familiar exterior lies a completely re-engineered system, designed to deliver greater torque, enhanced onboard serviceability, and lower power consumption, all while preserving the SG40’s compact size and integration flexibility.
“We kept the SG40 name because this isn’t about starting over, it’s about building on proven success” says Fabrizio Stifani, R&D Manager at Smartgyro. “This upgrade is part of our long-term engineering roadmap, where real-world feedback and targeted innovation come together to ensure every product in our range achieves optimal performance.
The evolution of the SG40 is the direct result of over ten years of field experience, product development, and rigorous testing across the entire Smartgyro range. From the first SG40 prototype to the subsequent launches of the SG80, SG60, SG20, and most recently the SG120 and SG150, every new model has provided critical insights into performance, reliability, and design optimization.
A key milestone came with the SG20, which introduced a Smartgyro-designed motor integrated within the flywheel alongside a re-engineered bearing configuration. These advancements, now refined and applied to the SG40, have enabled a more compact, robust internal structure, delivering greater torque output, reduced weight, and improved energy efficiency.
The latest SG40 also benefits from a streamlined mechanical layout that enhances access to key components, reduces assembly time, and minimizes manufacturing steps. The result is a stabilizer that is not only technically advanced, but also more efficient to produce, transport, and maintain, reinforcing Smartgyro’s long-term commitment to performance, innovation, and sustainability.
Speaking further on the development process, Fabrizio Stifani adds:
“With the optimized SG40, we applied a disciplined, data-driven approach, uniting our internal testing with lessons from real-world use. Every design decision was measured against clear outcomes: stronger performance, higher efficiency, or greater serviceability. Our development philosophy is to refine proven solutions, enhance where possible, and remain firmly aligned with the needs of our customers and installers.
With further evolution cycles planned across the range, Smartgyro reinforces its commitment to delivering gyro stabilizers that are not only high-performing and reliable, but also intelligent in design, efficient to maintain, and built for long-term durability.
Experience the new SG40 firsthand and speak directly with the team at upcoming international boat shows. The team will showcase the technical innovations, discuss compatibility and installation options, and provide a glimpse into the next steps on Smartgyro’s innovation roadmap.
