Case study: Bonsink Aquaservice fit Diamond 50 Exclusive vessel with SG20

Bonsink Aquaservice fit Diamond 50 Exclusive vessel with Smartgyro SG20. Now equipped with Smartgyro stabilizer, Jade passengers are set to experience unmatched comfort and stability.

Introduction

The Netherlands based private owner of Diamond 50 vessel, Jade, approached their local watersports and boat equipment dealer, Bonsink Aquaservice to explore marine stabilization options for their vessel ahead of planned sailing voyages around Europe, mainly in France and Scandinavia.

As a well-seasoned sailor and former captain of an inland commercial cargo vessel, the boat owner wanted his wife to be able to join him and for her to fully enjoy their boating experiences aboard Jade without fear of boat roll in the waters they were sailing. Requiring a stable and safe experience for himself and his wife, they opted for the recommended SG20.

Bonsink Aquaservice is a one-stop-shop for boat and watersport enthusiasts based in Zwartsluis, Netherlands. Not only do they sell a vast array of equipment, but they also install, repair and offer servicing and maintenance options to their sea-faring customers. The owner of Jade came to the expert team to get advice on stabilization solutions and the Bonsink Aquaservice team had the perfect solution in Smartgyro’s SG20, suitable for 45-55ft vessels and reducing boat roll by up to 95%.

The Challenge

Requiring a complete installation, Bonsink Aquaservice undertook a complete assessment of the vessel, to decide on the correct location for the installation which was finalized in the lazzerette of the Diamond 50, perfectly tucked away and creating minimal impact on the accommodation space.

Jade is a 2010 Diamond 50 exclusive motorboat 14.98 meters long with a max draft of 1.24m. The hull material is steel and the vessel is powered by a Volvo Penta D4-180 EVC engine.

The vessel was prepared by Bonsink, dried and levelled out before the installation could commence. The mechanical and electrical parts of the installation went as smoothly as they could. A steel frame was installed on the starboard stern to house the SG20 unit. This frame was cut and welded together and then welded to the vessel. Further installation components such as cooling elements, the control panel and cabling were then installed.

The steel frame to house the SG20 was bespoke to this particular application, and Bonsink worked with Smartgyro to have a specialist calculate the required strength for the frame and design the specifications.

The Solution

Smartgyro provided ongoing support throughout the installation process to provide support with any anomalies or challenges, but Bonsink found the installation to be simple and without issue due to the modular design of the system.

“Smartgyro’s years of experience and craftmanship were fully appreciated for this installation.

- said Frederik Visser, engineer, at Bonsink Aquaservice -

We chose to work with Smartgyro because of the high-performance levels demonstrated across their product range which surpasses many other stabilization options.”

Bonsink also opted to work with Smartgyro because units like the SG20 are water-cooled and operate within a vacuum which helps to reduce the power consumption, creating a more efficient and greener option for their customers.

The Result

Jade’s owner was very happy with the installation and service provided by Bonsink. The first trip out after the installation on the Amsterdam Rhine canal was very positive and the owner was extremely satisfied with the levels of stabilization achieved.

“Stabilization was perfect on our first trip with the SG20, we’re really pleased with its performance and are looking forward to many more enjoyable trips and time on the water thanks to Smartgyro.”

The owner also noticed surprisingly quiet operation from the SG20 having anticipated a much louder operation, so this provided a welcome benefit in the overall experience with a Smartgyro installation on this private leisure craft.
